THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Planning a vacation in Croatia and on the boat? Here is how you can rent a boat and enjoy the Adriatic sea with less worries.
There is a long list of things you need to consider and arrange before going on vacation. If renting a boat in Croatia is on your bucket list, we want to make your planning easier and more manageable. Bringing you the most important tips and some of the tricks you should know before chartering a boat, and how to make your dream vacation come true. We know a few days or one week is not a lot if you visit a new location, especially if we talk about Croatia and the islands. We can also tell for sure, in that case, local knowledge is key and priceless. If you want to see everything and discover the most beautiful bays, restaurants, nightlife, and activities, we bring you the best tips for that.-
Take a skipper with you.
Charter a boat with or without a skipper? One of the most often asked questions while making a reservation. No matter how much you think that solution won’t work for you, it is still wise to second-guess yourself. Does a skipper incur additional costs? Yes, but… Imagine you get lost or aren’t sure where to go. Additionally, boats have their costs as well. The right direction saves time and money without sacrificing fuel or possible dangers that may occur on the open sea (Croatia consists of many underwater rocks). Having a qualified person to manage your Adriatic tour saves time and money. A knowledgeable person on the boat gives you much more to get. There is no need to pay the extra deposit for the boat (the skipper is fully responsible for the boat), he recommends a good plan of the route and takes care of when and where to tie the boat to the shore, and how to approach beautiful beaches, takes you to the best and hidden spots, saves fuel, time and takes care of the security. The skipper takes care of all this, so one of your group members can relax and enjoy their vacation. -
Bring food, drinks, and snacks with you.
Local food or to go? Why not both? Planning a vacation often follows planning the budget also. We know that. In order to get a more sustainable and comfortable experience, try to think like a local. Markets, restaurants, and even bakeries are always more expensive on the islands than on the shore so we recommend shopping before getting on the boat. In order to get prepared we suggest you make a shopping list of all the items and necessities you could need (food, drinks, water, etc…) and check out the local supermarkets. On the other hand, trying out local cuisines is a “must do” of course, especially if we talk about Croatian food. Of course, eating on the boat is a great idea, but if you don’t want to lose time on cooking and planning meals, visiting local restaurants and “konoba” is a great option. You should try out local recipes, and great fish, and drink local wine instead of eating the same food as at home. -
Check the weather forecast.
You can plan to navigate during the summer, but the wind and the sea are not predictable. There is always a slight chance you will run into bad weather (in Croatia we say nevera) and end up in trouble. That is why we always suggest you check the weather and ask for advice from more experienced sailors. You can also check out our first advice about getting a skipper on board. It’s also a smart idea to ask about weather conditions before renting a boat. It is generally a good idea to prepare for all possible outcomes rather than running into something unexpected. Whenever you find that the weather might be problematic, we advise you to postpone your boat trip. Apply for a proper license and prepare yourself for the test.
Getting a proper license is “a must-have” in case you decide to cruise without a professional skipper. We can guide you and provide some tips about how and where you can get a proper license. This could save you some time on research and reduce some stress. The knowledge and experience we possess can provide you with a clear picture of what you might need while spending time at sea. Our team can also help you find answers, and how to think like a captain. However, nothing can be guaranteed when it comes to getting permission to navigate the boat or facing any situations on board. These are just a few guides and a few helpers on your way to becoming a skipper. Your next step is to apply for a license and pass the course. What would be advisable to carry with me if I plan a vacation on the boat?
There are a few things you should have in mind before locking down your suitcase. Swimming suit, fitting garments, sunscreen, beach towels, drinks, sunglasses, caps, and some long sleeve thin jacket if possible. Of course, you can get all that in our supermarkets or stands next to the beaches, but to save time and some money we suggest carrying your own instead. The jacket during the summer may sound weird, but being on the boat while moving from one location to another can be windy, so in order to not catch some cold, you should wear it instead.
